| So Machel brought back de Congo Man. What soca tracks would you like to see revived and by who? Soca Baptist or perhaps a remake of Kitch's Gimme de Ting?

| Yes Kris. Quiche was correcting me. I typed condo man instead of Congo man. That's what I get for sneaking a type in the middle of the workday. Although a condo man might'n be too bad right now Something like a cabin boy! | |

| I am not a fan of the remakes, like Bunji and that blasted Fiery. And I HATED that Congo Man because I did not enjoy being forced to listen to it approximately a billion times over the course of two days.
I doh mind a little sample of a popular track, like With or Without or or Band of the Year, but forget the re-makes. Do yuh own ting man!

| A sample is an audio segment taken from an original that is played thru part or all of a song. Machel's "With or Without You" is a remake/remix as he covers the original U2 song by taking beats & lyrics.
I'm not sure which songs I would love to hear as remakes. But I love how remakes will "force" DJs to resurrect originals. I've heard the original Sparrow tune mixed nicely into Machel's version; heard the original Soca Train mixed with Maximus's version, etc. For me, it brings back my love of tunes that aren't played as ofte, as the years go by.

| A good re-make, if tastefully done, can help connect different generations or even give new life to the original artist's work. I think it can be a good thing. I for one remember back yard parties (mostly family gatherings) when us kids would be running around and the grown ups grove to some Byron Lee or Beckett. I guess leaving T&T 20 years ago left some impressionable times and sometimes I can so clearly remember exactly what I doing when that old tune was on.
I think it's important though to give credit to the orginal artist (which I thought Machel did an excellent job of in the case of Congo Man). Some of the younger generation have only heard of Sparrow much less jam to one of his songs.

| That's a really good point Black Cherry. I know my mother was incensed about Bunji actually winning Soca Monarch with that Mastro tune. And if she hadn't told me it was an older track, I would never have known! So you're right, giving credit is really very important.
It's also funny that you bring up Byron Lee. I know I also hate those covers that they do, but I guess adults do like them since they can be 'easier' on the ear. Hmmm.
