Let's face it - Carnival is expensive. Let's see:
1. Costume - depending on FL/Individual or BL . In my case call it $600
2. Airfare - $800
3. Fete Money - (Lara, Breakfast Party, etc) - $800
4. Spending Money (assuming a one week trip)@ $100 per day - $700
5. Leh we doh even talk Car Rental - $$$350
6. Something for Tantie May, Cousin Richie & Carol, doh forget dey kids - $200 (have to stay somewhere)
7. New outfits/shoes - $600
8. Vex Money -$50
Ok folks - rounding that's $4,000 USD (Ah doh even want to count in TT$$$). Percentage wise my costume is 15% of my carnival expenses. When I think back on the conversations about the markup of costumes I have to shake meh head. The cost of your costume is minimal compared to the other expenses. So folks here's how I rationalize this. If you really looking to save, give up a fete or two because when it comes down to it; the Carnival experience is PRICELESS!
I'm curiuos to see how folks budget and plan for the season. For those in Trinidad I'm sure you find ways to spend the equivalent share of airfare and car-rental $$$.
P.S. Ah cyah forget lost time from work and lower productivity from lack of focus or pre-planning meh business(weeks before my trip).
